Institute of Pedagogy University of Rzeszów – Rzeszów, Poland (Coordinator)

The University of Rzeszów (UR) was established in 2001 through the merger of the Pedagogical University of Rzeszow, the Maria Skłodowska Curie University of Lublin, Rzeszów branch, and the Economics Faculty of the Agricultural Academy of Cracow, Rzeszów branch.  It is young, open and strong on its variety. It is located in Rzeszów – the capital of the Podkarpackie Province in the south east of Poland. In the University there are 21 institutes within 4 colleges, offering education in 59 fields of study. The academic and teaching potential of the university comprises 1,300 academic teachers. The UR offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD programmes, specialist training, supplementary training, and adult education. The UR has over 16,000 full- and part-time students. The UR has its leading role in initiating and keeping great and wide scientific, social and cultural contacts with neighbouring countries and our partners from European Community. The asset of the university is its highly developed international cooperation. The university cooperates with around 300 partner universities from all over the world including 54 universities from Ukraine and 190 partner universities within the Erasmus+ programme. The students and academic staff participate in many foreign internships, conferences and research camps. The UR realizes over 30 projects (international and domestic), whose aim is strengthening and development of didactic and scientific potential of the university as well as increasing the number of graduates in disciplines of the greatest importance to the economy based on knowledge. As a result numerous science and research centres have been created at the university. At present there are 11 modern science and research centres at the university conducting different kinds of research. They are without doubt the flagship of the region.

Centre for Supporting Education and Entrepreneurship “CWEP” – Rzeszów, Poland

Centre For Education And Entrepreneurship Support (CWEP) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2004 by a group of entrepreneurs, teachers and social activists from Rzeszów, Poland. CWEP cooperates with businesses and educational institutions. The mission of CWEP is to increase the quality of education training at all levels and in all its forms, as well as to promote entrepreneurship in order to foster integration of any social group, regardless of their gender, age or ethnic origin. Particularly, the aims are to improve accessibility, quality and efficiency of education of all people, to promote and contribute to adult education, life-long learning, e-learning and the usage of new technologies in education and entrepreneurship. The Association works with many partners from Europe in order to strengthen the economic position of enterprises and provides on-line platforms for companies.

INSTALOFI LEVANTE SL – Valencia, Spain

Instalofi Levante S.L. (FyG Consultores) is a private, high-level training enterprise, pioneers in co-creation with companies, adults and young people in the training on innovative concepts, business creation, employability basic skills, literacy and numeracy skills, entrepreneurship and soft and hard skills training.

FyG acts actively as an education and training company, promoting and enhancing the development of adults, seeing for new opportunities and helping them to become more employable, facing different factors of exclusion: youngsters and adults with educational difficulties, unemployed with economic or social obstacles.

FyG has experience in running a wide range of trainings courses and mentoring programmes for companies, entrepreneurs, Start-Ups, also with individuals from disadvantage groups. It acts a body providing career guidance, professional counselling and information providing services of job insertion and intermediation on the labour market for unemployed as: orientation, training, assessment and information.

In recent years, FyG has developed and implement a number of European international cooperation projects with Erasmus+ and COSME programme, dealing with enterprise creation and development, employability, management, Start Ups training, internationalization, Gamification and Innovation of the Entrepreneurial Training.

HERAKLION MUNICIPALITY – Heraklion, Greece

Heraklion is the capital of Crete and one of the Mediterranean region’s most fascinating and vibrant cities.  The Chandax of the Arabs and Byzantines, the Candia of the Venetians, was one of the island’s major ports and markets, and at times one of the most economically active towns in the wider region. Heraklion is the fourth largest city in Greece. According to the results of the 2011 census, the municipality’s population is 173,993 people and it extends over an area of 684.3 km2 (264.2 sq mi).

The Municipality of Heraklion employs 751 workers. Heraklion has been selected as one of the Smart21 Communities of 2012, 2013 and 2014 by the Intelligent Community Forum and has been awarded European distinction and the second European Prize in the Dosta!-Congress Prize as recognition of the excellent efforts and its municipal program for the implementation of its social services pertaining to social inclusion and anti-discrimination. Furthermore Heraklion nominated Best City Destination and Gold Award Winner in Greek Travel Awards in Stockholm, was also one of the Winner for UNESCO Learning Cities Award of the 2019, with its ‘Fit for All’ programme, through which Heraklion has found an innovative and fun way to bring its citizens and the refugees residing in the city closer together by promoting equity and inclusion through sports and educational activities based on subjects such as local culture and tradition.

Heraklion In The Frames of Smart City -. for many years the city of Heraklion has developed a smart city strategy to become more competitive at national, Mediterranean and European level. This strategy is based on some key pillars of competitiveness including:

  • the specialization of the economy and the workforce,
  • the establishment of strategic objectives and their collective management,
  • cooperation with educational institutions and FORTH
  • the quality of life of the urban environment,
  • the existence of strong transport and telecommunications infrastructures

Following an evaluation process, Heraklion in the year of 2020, was included in the list of the 100 Intelligent cities Challenge network. It was among 90 applications that has been selected to participate in the Challenge for the next 2 years. This group includes 54 new ICC applications, 26 cities participating in the Digital Cities Challenge initiative and 9 EU mentor cities. Nine more international cities are selected to complete the list of the 100 cities that will take part in the ICC trip.

In March 2011, the Municipality of Heraklion signed the Mayors’ Pact, which is an ambitious initiative to involve local authorities and citizens in reducing energy consumption, saving resources and upgrading the quality of life of citizens. In September of the year 2020, Heraklion has submitted the uptated Plan of Action on the frame of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy Europe. The vision of the Municipality of Heraklion is to pave the way for a sustainable future for all. The programme of the Municipality envisages interventions in key sectors namely the building sector, transportation, processes, lighting, etc. Indicatively, the plan foresees major renovations to public buildings (Public-buildings energy efficiency plan completed in 2019), modernization of municipal fleet and traffic relief projects (Sustainable Urban Transport Plan, tbc in 2021), RES projects (Energy community tbc in 2021). Adopting a conservative scenario of population evolution, it is estimated that the foreseen actions will lead to a 40.2% reduction of CO2 emissions per capita by 2030.

In the field of Education, the competent Department of the Municipality carries out many actions at all levels of education, including those related to the Adults’ Education through the Center of Lifelong Learning, on various subjects.

The Directorate of Planning Programming and ICT of the Municipality of Heraklion  through the Training Center of the Department of Informatics, offers training seminars on new technologies to the employees of the Municipality and to the unemployed, while the newly established structure “Dimoskopio”  aims to support the start of new businesses by offering training  for their development and sustainability.
